Understanding Emotional Eating
I've never met a woman with a totally 100% healthy relationship with food. I'm not sure that its possible to grow up in a western culture without rules, patterns, and a rocky relationship with what we eat. Whether we're ashamed about sneaking or craving certain foods, or drinking just one more glass of wine in the evening to numb away a stressful day, food often becomes a tool to avoid what we don't want to feel.
However, along with the rules, we also all grow up with the capacity to not only face, but grow and learn from, the trauma and emotions that we try to eat away. I believe that receiving nourishment from food and our life experience is an essential part of personal growth. Not only is it possible, its an integral part of our life's journey to stop using food and drink to numb and avoid emotional pain and trauma resulting in neither food or life being properly digested or integrated so we can grow physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. |
